How are Doctors of Chiropractic educated?
The education process for a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) is like that of medical doctors (M.D.), dentists (D.D.S.) and osteopaths (D.O.). The Doctor of Chiropractic must earn their 4-year undergraduate degree before beginning another 4 years of chiropractic education at an accredited chiropractic college. Before graduating, chiropractors must pass 3 national board exams then take a state board exam in the state where they choose to practice.. Dr. Johnston also attends continuing education annually in his field of expertise to compliment his Doctorate of Chiropractic Degree.

What Do Spinal Adjustments Do?
Adjustment is the very specific term used to describe the ideal outcome
of the chiropractic doctor's attempt to correct the vertebral subluxation.
An adjustment restores the brain's communication with the body and vice
versa.
Health is restored as this normal condition replaces the unhealthy condition as an all time reality.
The Non-Spinal Adjustment
The ability to free other, non-spinal joints is well within the chiropractor's
skill level. They are rightly called “"manipulation" but
are often loosely referred to as extremity adjustments.” They
can unlock joint adhesions or “"fixations"” and
related joint maladies in shoulders, knees, feet , hips , and feet. Also
rib and scapula joints.

What is Vertebral Subluxation?
The Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC) describes what happens when spinal bones misalign due to physical trauma, emotional stress, or chemical imbalances. VSC is the underlying cause of declining health. Some people mistakenly think chiropractors only correct conditions
The truth is that, misalignments of spinal bones can irritate,
and injure and interfere with the central nervous system and thereby negatively
affect all the structures, organs, systems and functions of your body.
If these misalignments are left alone they can lead to increased pain
and malfunction. The fact is some symptoms don't show up for many years
after a subluxation occurs. But the nerves will continue to malfunction
and elements of spine, like the discs, will progressively degenerate as
DIS-ease and disease also progress. They are called “Silent Killers”
because they go unnoticed and undetected for years for most people.
And everyone has them. Some of us Chiropractors call
them "the" predicament of the species.”

Why do I need X-Rays?
Many people overlook the importance of a thorough chiropractic x-ray examination. There are two major reasons why your chiropractor will recommend x-rays.
1) Pathology:
It is the responsibility of Johnston Chiropractic Health Center to be certain that there are no complications in your case that might prevent or contraindicate chiropractic care. We also are responsible to make you aware of any other pathologies that may show up in your x-rays. The x-ray is the very best means by which Dr. Johnston can "look inside" and determine the exact condition of your spine as well as other parts of your body. That is why we maintain an x-ray department on the premises at our offices.
2) Analytical:
Once Dr. Johnston has established that chiropractic care is
safe for you, and that you can expect good results from it,
the basic underlying cause of your condition must be analyzed ..
X-rays are used to analyze the position of the bones of the spine in order
to locate misalignments. Chiropractic adjustments can then be accurately
performed to correct vertebral subluxations. Also Dr. Johnston takes time
to show you your analyzed x-rays and discuss your problems and recommend
the best course of action to achieve your goals. He'll always give you
his best recommendations and then he'll listen to how you wish to be served
at Johnston Chioropractic. He wants what you want –to help
you achieve your health goals.
While receiving chiropractic care as prescribed by Dr. Johnston, another set of x-rays will be taken at a midway point to determine your progress. Precise measurements will be taken to compare your results. They will be discussed with you in depth.

misalignments?
An extremely advanced computer software program called
PulstarFRAS
(Pulstar Differential Compliance) by Sense Technology is
utilized at JCHC and nowhere else in Northern Florida .It precisely demonstrates
to doctor and patient the precise points of spinal kinesiopathology in
real time. This technology has advanced care and analysis of chiropractic
to a new standard of excellence and is currently only available regionally
at JCHC.
The Pulstar: Analysis and adjustment system that takes a measurement of the mobility of each vertebrae of the spine , plots them on a easy to read graph for many uses, including instant visual analysis of the progress of care each visit and cumulatively This analysis and mobilization technique used in conjunction with hands on analysis, orthopedic , neurological, and digital comparative muscle tests, digital range of motion tests and x-rays to give you the most accurate adjustments possible. And our clinical results show it.
